Description |
This small area of native bush - preserved from the wholesale forest clearance that marked the arrival of European settlers in the Wairapara in the nineteenth century - is a modest gem. Although only about 2 ha in area, it contains the best part of 1.5 km of criss-crossing walks and is a joy to explore. If you walk with your eyes focused on what's ahead of you, you may not be overly impressed - though the variety of lowland trees is obvious and it's impossible not to be seduced by the different textures of their bark. But look up and the real beauty of the place strikes you: the: criss-crossing branches and majestic treetops that seem to proclaim the joy of tree-ness! |
