Description
Brick Bay Sculpture Trail is worth seeing for the sculptures alone. The fact that it's dog friendly merely adds to the pleasure.
Work to create the trail was started in 1986, and in now displays a changing exhibition of 45 or so sculptures by well known artists throughout New Zealand. The exhibits are set out along a 2km path, that starts and ends at the impressive Glass House (which also hosts a cafe). From there it wanders around a small lake (look out for the floating exhibits), past a vineyard (you can taste the wine as well), and off across pasture, through bush and round another larger lake.
The sculptures are of all sizes, shapes and designs, from small ceramic pieces to large moving windmills and ethereal soundscapes. It costs $12 for adults to enter, and is worth every cent =- and for another $5000 or so you can buy a sculpture or two if you want. And if it suits your lifestyle, access to the trail is available not only by car, but by boat and helicopter!
